Ransomware scum infect Comic Relief server: Internal systems taken down

After a ransomware attack on Comic Relief, the internal systems were down for 3 days running. Comic Relief’s CTO, Zennon Hannick confirmed in an email that one server had been encrypted and the information held on this cannot be accessed, however, the good news is that the files held on this server are only copies of the information we held elsewhere.

UK SME’s have a false sense of cyber security

Almost three quarters (74%) of UK small and medium sized businesses think they are safe from cyber-attacks despite over half of these having suffered a data breach. 27% of businesses asked felt that due to being a small organisation they were automatically safe from cyber attacks.

When it comes to cyber-security recently, it is an issue that faces the entire business rather than just the IT department, however, 33% of the SMEs asked in this study considered cyber security their IT departments sole responsibility to handle and distribute throughout the organisation.

The report found that there is still naivety about the significance of a data breach as 18% of SMEs asked admitted that they would wait until the next day to contact someone if they did not consider it a big problem.
