Today was the second day of VMworld 2019 , full of lots of content, demo’s and more. The day was kicked off with Ray o’Farrell hosting many of his colleagues including Joe Baguley on stage to demonstrate their technologies including NSX, Tanzu missions control and more. It was great to see these technologies in action to help understand how VMware are bring all these together.
We then had an extremely inspirational presentation from Bear Grylls who discussed how in his past he has had to fight against the odds, by using his 4 f’s, Failure, Fear, Fire and Faith to ensure that you never give up. Bear was very honest, relate-able and real in this session and whilst it was a very different focus during VMworld general session, focusing on personal success rather than technology, I thoroughly enjoyed.
I also attended the annual VMUG leader lunch. We were joined by Sanjay Poonen and Joe Baguely to have a Q&A session with us leaders. Throughout the session, Sanjay and Joe were very honest and it gave us a good insight into the focus of VMware, being Tanzu and kubernetes.
Throughout the afternoon I attended the Security Keynote where we had a live demonstration of someone trying to hack App Defense. We were shown the capabilities in both monitor mode and alert & block mode. This was a great way to show the technology in action and get a greater understanding of what it can do.
My last session of the day was actually in the solutions exchange and the area that stood out to me was the Augmented Reality demonstration Alan Renouf and team have been working on. It is amazing to see what the team are already doing with this technology that can still sometimes be seen as ‘future technology’.
Lastly, of course, was the VMworld party which is always an energetic and fun way to end the week.
